MUW is a public university that feels like a private college. Founded in 1884 as the first public college for women in the United States, MUW is a tradition-rich university that has educated men for more than 30 years. U.S.News & World Report has consistently ranked MUW among the top Southern public master's universities. Our four colleges feature more than 50 outstanding majors and concentrations, and with more than 75 campus organizations, it is almost impossible not to find a perfect fit. College of Arts & Sciences

From art to women's studies, you can choose from more than 26 majors and emphasis areas in seven departments. For many Arts & Sciences programs, you can also earn a minor. In addition, the College offers minors in American Studies, Art History, Film Studies, French, International Studies, Philosophy, and Religious Studies.

Arts & Sciences also offers certificate programs in Teaching English as a Second Language, Ethics, and Public Administration.

College of Business & Professional Studies

Want to start your own business? Maybe you want to work for a global corporation? The W has a business degree option to meet your career goals. The College offers eight majors, 10 concentrations, six minors, and five emphasis areas in three academic departments, and provides many online learning opportunities. The College is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs.

If food is your interest, the Culinary Arts Institute offers one of the nation's few baccalaureate programs in culinary arts and is a premier national program that focuses on small quantity from-scratch food. The Institute is a partner with the National Restaurant Association.

A recognized leader in the field, the College was awarded the 2012 Governor's Award for university-school partnerships by the Mississippi Association of Partnerships in Education. If your interest is working in a profession that serves others, Health and Kinesiology, Psychology, Family Studies, and Public Health Education can prepare you for your career of services!

Graduates from the Department of Education teach in every county in Mississippi, as well as school districts around the nation. Our graduates are highly sought out by school districts. The W is NCATE (CAEP) accredited.

College of Nursing & Speech-Language Pathology

Recognized as the strongest in Mississippi and one of the best in the Southeast, The W's Department of Nursing offers programs that lead to an associate, baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degree in nursing. Both undergraduate programs have an overall pass rate of 99 percent, since the program's inception, on the National Nursing Licensure Exam.

Prepare for your career as a speech-language pathologist with The W's pre-professional bachelor's degree - one of the most challenging academically on campus. You'll have the advantage of small classes taught by active clinicians. And, you'll get hands-on learning with clinical experiences in our Speech and Hearing Center. We have have an outstanding record of ensuring students are ready for further graduate studies, and the department offers a master's degree as well. In the last 10 years, our graduate students have earned an overall pass rate of 99 percent on the Praxis II.
