Alumna, TVA, launch girls' leadership academy

W alumna Amy Strickland Tate (’97) with the backing of the Tennessee Valley Authority, has established a 6-week leadership academy for young girls in Tupelo.

Tate and girls' leadership classTate, a program manager for TVA’s Valley Relations group, asked the fifth graders from Lawhon Elementary to submit an application and explain why leadership was important to them.

The program focuses on teaching girls about leadership styles, good decision making skills, engaging in public service, and the value of being a role model.

Tate had local professional to join the girls to work on communications skills and team building.  TVA brought in women in local elected offices to speak to the girls about leadership.

Tate is a 1997 graduate from Mississippi University for Women and is currently on the Board of Directors for the MUW Alumni Association.
