Alumni named to positions in the Office of Development & Alumni

Stevens-CumberlandCOLUMBUS, Miss. -- Two W alumni have been named to positions in the Office of Development & Alumni. They are Andrea Nester Stevens of West Point and Lyndsay Blackburn Cumberland of Columbus, both who were serving in interim positions.


Stevens has been named executive director of development & alumni and will serve as the executive director of the MUW Foundation, the fundraising arm of the university. Cumberland has been named director of alumni relations.

Andrea Stevens Stevens joined The W in 2001 as director of planned giving. In that role, she assisted the university in growing its planned giving program. In 2008, she was promoted to executive director of development.

Stevens is a 1992 cum laude graduate of The W. After graduating, she took a position as a staff accountant with Watkins, Ward & Stafford in West Point. Later, she completed the certified public accountant exam and then personal financial specialist certification. She was involved in tax and auditing work and eventually became senior accountant.

She serves as secretary of the Town & Tower Club of Columbus and volunteers with the local Boy Scout Troop 15 in her community. Stevens is past president of the Junior Auxiliary of West Point, past treasurer of United Way of Clay County and past president of the North Mississippi Planned Giving Council. She attends First United Methodist Church in West Point.

Stevens has three children. When she’s not crunching numbers, Stevens enjoys cooking and tennis. She earned her chef certification from The W’s Culinary Arts Institute in 2007.

Lyndsay CumberlandCumberland joined The W in 2011 as assistant director of alumni relations. She served in this position for a year before being named interim director of alumni relations.

Born and raised in Columbus, Cumberland moved back home from Savannah, Ga. She graduated cum laude from The W in 2007 with a B.S. in paralegal studies and a minor in general business. Prior to joining The W, she worked in the legal field.

Cumberland is the president-elect of the local Greater Columbus Civitan Club, currently serves as adviser for the Student Alumni Ambassadors and a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus. When she’s not working, Cumberland enjoys traveling, spending time with family and playing disk golf.

Her husband, Jonathan, also obtained his graphic design degree from MUW in 2009 and completed graduate school with a M.F.A. in illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design.  He now serves as assistant professor of graphic design for the Department of Art & Design at The W.
