“The entire exhibition is organized around the visible spectrum of colors- so each work was chosen and placed based on which hues are dominant in the piece. This was a totally novel way of organizing the collection and it is completely the brain child of our new gallery assistant Andy Snyder,” said Alex Stelioes-Wills, gallery director.
Because of the organizing theme, this year’s Permanent Collection Exhibition emphasizes the breadth and diversity of the collection. This show features numerous works ranging from photographs, prints, paintings and drawings. It features works from alumni, past and current professors, and a well-known local artist, Birney Imes. It also highlights three works of faculty emeritus Larry Feeney, who will be having a solo retrospective in the spring.
The Eugenia Summer Gallery maintains the MUW Permanent Collection, a collection of nearly 1,000 works of art. The gallery director and student assistants are responsible for storing, organizing, cataloguing, restoring, presenting and exhibiting works in the permanent collection. MUW’s Department of Art and Design started collecting artwork in the 1940s.
