Learn about old-time radio starting with the early 1920s and the incredible impact it had on American life. Participants will talk about and listen to all of the great programs that made up “the Golden Age of Radio.”

Tired of walking alone? Looking for a new way to motivate yourself and others to get moving? Walking with others can keep you motivated, improve your accountability and help you meet new people with similar goals.

Learn How to Sight-Sing: Life Enrichment Program (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 11:00 am - 12:00 pm)

Would you like to learn how to sing at sight? This course is designed to teach participants how to take a piece of music that they have never seen and sing it without instrumental assistance. Participants will learn basic music theory through games and other fun methods of learning.

CycleFit-45 (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm)

45 minutes of indoor cycling. Experience a variety of terrains while our instructors take you through this fun and exciting session!

 

Strength-45 (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm)

Build strength and coordination targeting every major muscle group using weights, stability balls, and resistance tubes.

Microsoft Excel: Life Enrichment Program (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm)

Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program made up of rows and columns which allows the user to create workbooks, charts, and tables to do calculations and analyses. Topics covered in class will include creating and formatting worksheets, using formulas, and various functions such as math, statistical, logical, and financial. Participants should have basic typing skills. Bring a flash drive to class. 

Couples Massage Therapy: Life Enrichment Program (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Participants will learn the benefits of massage and 3 basic strokes of massage. These techniques will give you tools to really enjoy the time with your partner, spouse or family member to help them feel great through the power of touch. This class is great for newlyweds, moms and daughter or even the whole family. A supply fee of $35 will be assessed on the first day of class.

Best of “I Love Lucy”: Life Enrichment Program (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

This course will consist of lectures and viewings of the best of the “I Love Lucy” show from 1951 to 1957. Participants will discuss shows and then view them.

So, You Want to be a Nonprofit Board Member: Life Enrichment Program (Mon. 31 Aug, 2015 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

This course will give participants an in-depth training on what being a nonprofit board member entails and what organizations are looking for locally.

As the popular alternative to tackle football, flag football is a team sport consisting of seven players on each side. Instead of tackling, players must remove the flag belt of their opponent in order to end a play. Fast-paced and unorthodox, flag football challenges players to think outside the box.

Come and play like a child again. Exercise in water does not feel like work; it is ideal for bad knees and hips as the water supports body weight. Come try it – no swimming ability needed because all work is done in shallow water. 

Sign Language 101: Life Enrichment Program (Tue. 1 Sep, 2015 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

This personal, interactive course is for anyone who has always wanted to learn sign language. Participants will learn signs and songs to use at home. Beginners and those who already know sign language are welcome.  

H.I.I.T. (Tue. 1 Sep, 2015 4:15 pm - 5:00 pm)

High Intensity Interval Training. This high intensity interval training class will keep you coming back for more! HIIT is a type of cardio training in which you alternate short, very high intensity intervals with longer, slower intervals to recover. Intermediate levels; preferred, all moves may be modified for beginners!

Discover the skills that will help dissolve fears of the unknown as it relates to understanding basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Internet basics, exploring the Web, keeping up with friends and family via internet, working with files and folders, managing pictures, and much more. 

Dulcimer 101: Life Enrichment Program (Tue. 1 Sep, 2015 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)

Discover the joy of playing the dulcimer. No music knowledge needed since participants will learn to play by numbers. If you have a dulcimer, please bring it to class. If not, one will be loaned to you.

Become a Foster Grandparent at Boys and Girls Club: Life Enrichment Program (Wed. 2 Sep, 2015 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm)

Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs. This course provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities. Help children in your community develop the academic and life skills that are critical to their development and future successes. Foster Grandparents will be assigned to the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus.

Understand how to read simple crochet patterns, make a variety of stitches, and create your own needlecrafts. Bring a packet of crochet hooks and any color yarn to class.

Lectio Divina: Life Enrichment Program (Thu. 3 Sep, 2015 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm)

Lectio Divina is a method used by early Christians, desert fathers and Benedictine monks to experience God’s voice speaking to them personally through scripture. It is finding its usefulness again in our fast-paced culture for those who want to deepen their spiritual understanding. Bring your favorite Bible and a notepad to class.

Kindergarten Mathematics: Life Enrichment Program (Thu. 3 Sep, 2015 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm)

Always thought math could have been fun, if only you could have had the right teacher for it? Think the Common Core mathematics topics are way too hard for our Mississippi students? Come pretend you are back in kindergarten, and see what all the fuss is about. Class starts 8/20

Special Education 101: Life Enrichment Program (Thu. 3 Sep, 2015 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

The course consists of a series of workshops to provide parents/family or community members of children with disabilities that receive special education services from the public schools, an opportunity to learn effective advocacy skills, conflict resolution/communication, how to navigate the special education system, and locate resources within the local community. Information will also be covered on how to start support groups, people first language, and disability etiquette.

Badminton Tournament (Thu. 3 Sep, 2015 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Get ready to rally. Badminton is a racquet sport that can be played by either two people (singles) or four people (doubles). Unlike other racquet sports, such as tennis or squash, badminton involves hitting a shuttlecock – a cone-shaped projectile that moves differently to a ball. Able to reach much higher speeds than a ball, the shuttlecock makes for a fast-paced game - making badminton the ideal sport for those who like to be kept on their toes.

POUND is a 45 minute group fitness class that combines cardio, strength training and pilates with drumming to achieve a full-body workout. Using lightly weighted drumsticks, Ripstix™, participants can expect to burn between 500-900 calories per class and will be performing over 15,000 reps per session!
