The Curriculum for Theatre Education (with Teacher Certification) will consists of 124 semester hours earned in three areas: General Education, Theatre Arts, and Professional Education requirements.

General Education Curriculum: (39-40 semester hours)

Teacher Education students are required to pass the following courses with a “C” or higher as part of their major and their General Education Curriculum:

  • MA 113-College Algebra or higher Math except for MA 123 (3 semester hours
  • COM 101-Oral Communications (3 hours)
  • PSY 206-Human Growth and Development (3 hours)
  • KIN 101, 125, 130, 138, 140, 144, 150 or 240 (1 hour)

  • TH 175-Theatre Appreciation (3 hours)
  • Th 176-Playscript Analysis (3 hours)
  • TH 205-Fundamentals of Interpretation
  • TH 207-Creative Dramatics (Materials and Methods) (3 hours)
  • TH 217-Stage Crafts (3 hours)
  • TH 219-Beginning Acting (3 hours)
  • TH 320-Directing (3 hours)
  • TH 321-Theatre Management (3 hours)
  • TH 400-Seminar: Special Problems in Theatre Practice (1 hour class-3 hours required)
  • TH 457-History of the Theatre I (3 hours)
  • TH 458-History of the Theatre II (3 hours)

One of the following courses:

  • TH 200-Stage Make-Up (3 hours)
  • TH 318-Stage Lighting (3 hours)
  • TH 464-Costume for the Stage

Other courses include:

  • COM 101-Oral Communication (3 hours)
  • HKC/KIN 120, 125, 130, 138, 140, 144, 150 or 240 (1 hour)

 

BA Degree Requirements:

  • Foreign Language (One area-14 hours) or 6 hours at the 200 Level

  • ED 351-Educational Measurement (3 hours)
  • ED 365-Content Area Reading (3 hours)
  • ED 407-Observation and Directed Teaching, Grades K-12 (3 hours)
  • ED 401-Teacher Internship Seminar: Classroom Management (3 hours)
  • PSY 206-Human Growth and Development (3 hours)
  • PSY 360-Educational Psychology (3 hours)
