Description:

The MUW Department of Graduate Nursing was established in 1975, and has maintained full nursing accreditation status since its initial accreditation, to offer programs of study leading to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. The graduate master's nursing program is for individuals with a baccalaureate in nursing and two years bedside registered nursing experience. There are currently 3 tracks to choose from: Family Nurse Practitioner (39 semester hours, 12 months), Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (44 semester hours, 21 months), and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (47 semester hours, 24 months). General Admission Requirements:

  • A completed Graduate Application form.
  • Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work from each institution attended, including MUW transcripts. Transcripts must verify that the applicant received a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited four-year institution and that the applicant has a minimum 3.0 overall GPA on a four-point scale for undergraduate studies.
  • Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Test scores may not be more than five years old at the time of application.
  • Three letters of professional recommendation stating the applicant's qualifications for graduate work from persons (excluding family members and MUW employees) who have personal knowledge of the applicant's academic/work performance.
  • An immunization form showing proof of two doses of measles vaccines and one of rubella. See the Graduate Bulletin for more details.
  • A $25 application fee, payable to MUW Graduate Studies.

 

Program-Specific Requirements:

  • Minimum score of 3.0 in analytical writing on GRE
  • Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an academic institution with national and regional accreditation
  • Credit in undergraduate statistics course with a minimum grade of "C"
  • Unencumbered MS RN license or have unencumbered authority to practice as a RN via the Multi-state Licensure Compact
  • Practice experience of at least two years as a registered nurse
  • Evidence of professional leadership and foundational research skills
  • Advanced Pathophysiology is a prerequisite course offered on the MUW campus during Spring semester only. You must pass this course with a minimum grade of "B"
  • Pass a nationwide background check and drug screen (9 panel)
  • A personal interview with graduate nursing faculty
