Get Ready for Blues Week!

Blues Week kicks off with Move-in Day on August 19th, followed by seven days of fun and engaging programing to help get YOU connected to The W!

Move In DayCOLUMBUS, Miss. – Faculty and staff at The W will roll up their sleeves and lend a helping hand to students moving into the residence halls Saturday, Aug. 17, starting at noon. The community is invited to participate.

Students will be greeted by staff as they enter the front gate, according to Sirena Cantrell, director of the Department of Housing and Residence Life.

Routes have been designed to reduce traffic bottlenecks and to speed up the process. Directional signs and instructions will be provided by W police and Weeks of Welcome staff members.

Cantrell said, “The Department of Housing and Residence Life has set aside this time for our students to come to campus to move into their new home. There will be numerous faculty, staff and students to assist families during the day.

“This day is very special to our students because it is a start of a new chapter in their life. By having many volunteers on site during the day, family members are able to get all questions answered and the help they need to make this a successful start of their child’s college career.”

Move-In Day will kick off Weeks of Welcome activities. Other activities scheduled include a Late Night Breakfast, Social Club/Greek Life Ice Cream Social, International Student Welcome, Mud Volleyball Tourney, Headphone Disco and Commuter/Transfer Student Social. New Student Serenade, a time-honored tradition that ends at the president’s home, will be held Monday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.

The Welcome Week schedule can be found at http://web3.muw.edu/welcome.

If you would like to volunteer on Move In Day, please contact Cantrell at (662) 329-7127.

Registration for The W will be held Monday, Aug. 19 and classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 20.
