COLUMBUS, Miss. – Faculty and staff at The W will roll up their sleeves and lend a helping hand to students moving into the residence halls Saturday, Aug. 16, starting at noon. The community is invited to participate.
Students will be greeted by staff as they enter the front gate, according to Sirena Cantrell, dean of students and director of Housing and Residence Life.
Routes have been designed to reduce traffic bottlenecks and to speed up the process. Directional signs and instructions will be provided by W police and Blues Week staff members.
Cantrell said, “Move In Day is the day set aside for all students to move into their residence halls at The W. The department ensures that volunteers are readily available to assist families with moving their students’ items into their rooms. Living on campus is a unique residential experience, and we want to ensure the move-in process is smooth for each student and their family.
“This day is significant because we come together as a campus and community to assist our students as they move into their home away from home here at The W.”
Move In Day will also offer the opportunity for students and parents to visit campus to answer any questions. The offices that will be open include admissions, comptroller, financial aid, the ID office in the police department and bookstore.
Cantrell also added, “We will take all volunteers on Move In Day. There are plenty of students who will need assistance. The more volunteers we have the quicker each student can be moved in.”
If you would like to volunteer on Move In Day, please contact Cantrell at (662) 329-7127. For more Move-In Day traffic and parking information, visit muw.edu.
Classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 21.
