COLUMBUS, Miss. -- The inaugural issue of Merge, The W’s undergraduate research journal, was launched May 5 and features work by two current seniors and three 2016 graduates.
The multidisciplinary publication is housed in the Ina E. Gordy Honors College but open to students across the university. The student editorial staff, led in this first year by managing editor Maddy Norgard, seeks to promote quality research from students by giving them a platform for sharing it.
“Submissions were accepted from students from every academic department, discipline, and level,” said Norgard. “The submission process gave students the opportunity to prepare their work for a peer-reviewed academic publication.”
Submissions were reviewed and selected by the editorial staff and members of the Honors Faculty Committee. In addition to Norgard, editorial staff members included Colin Damms, Cassidy DeGreen and Gabby Lestrade.
Fields represented in the inaugural issue include public health, speech-language pathology, women’s studies and English.
In its online format at http://www.muw.edu/honors/merge, Merge is available not only to fellow students and to faculty, but also to potential employers, researchers and anyone else interested in the research topics covered.
It will be published annually.
