Department of Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-language pathologists specialize in the screening, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of human communication disorders. They work in a variety of professional settings, such as public and private schools, hospitals, universities, nursing homes, other health care facilities, and in private practice. They work with persons of all ages, from infancy to the elderly.

 

Pre-Professional Undergraduate Program

The speech-language pathology undergraduate program is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of normal and disordered communication as preparation for entrance into graduate school. The program requires majors to have a scientific knowledge base for good decision making skills. The undergraduate program is considered a pre-professional program; it lays the foundation for the master's program, which is required for independent professional practice.

Graduate Program

The Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology graduate program enables students to develop professional knowledge and clinical skills.

Traditional and non-traditional students will demonstrate leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities professionally and competently in a variety of clinical settings. The graduate program offers a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
