University Mail Services

Mail Services oversees the operation and distribution of the University’s mailing services to benefit the administration, faculty, staff, students and surrounding community. Mail Services isn't responsible for lost mail/packages that were never received at the campus post office. However, we can assure you all mail received will be distributed as quickly as possible.

Hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday

Payment Method: CASH Only. We apologize we are not set up to take debit/credit cards.

Staff:
Angenette "Cookie" Frazier, Head Mail Clerk
Renee Phillips, Mail Services Assistant

All incoming mail should be addressed as follows:

(Your Name)
1100 College Street
MUW-(Your Box Number)*
Columbus, MS 39701-5800

*The Box Number is the most important part of the address.  Without this number there is an increase in the time to look up each and every box number for mail that comes in.  This problem causes a delay in the processing of your incoming mail.

Price of Postage

Easy Permit Postage Program

Mail Services is pleased to announce it is now enrolled in Pitney Bowes (PB) Easy Permit Postage Program. This program includes non-profit/bulk mail, business reply mail and postage due mail. We will now be billed by PB for any activity on these permit accounts instead of having to keep open accounts at Bluecutt. If you use any of these services, please be sure to contact Mail Services at ext. 7408 to obtain the Centralized Account Processing System (CAPS) account number PRIOR to going to Bluceutt.

Campus Mail Services (very limited)

Please be reminded the campus mail services are very limited. You may purchase postage stamps, mail first class items, and mail items using Priority Mail.  However, for special mail services such as delivery confirmation, mail insurance, international mail, signature confirmation, certified mail, express mail, registered mail, certified mail, return receipt, etc., you may visit the nearest post office located downtown on Main Street or you may visit http://www.usps.com/.  We apologize the campus post office is no longer authorized to provide these services. NOTE: Procurement cards can be used to pay for special mail services.

Express Mail

When Express Mail is received at Bluecutt General Mail Facility, it is stamped with Angenette Frazier's signature, not her actual signature as she is not a Bluecutt employee. Once the Express Mail arrives on campus, post office personnel and the driver confirm the mail. It is then logged in a book and depending on the size, placed in the appropriate box. If the item is too large, a package pick up slip is put in the appropriate box.

Tracking Mail

Tracking mail/packages can confirm when the package has left Bluecutt, however, there is no way to track packages from Bluecutt to MUW. We rely on a driver (who has several stops) to deliver all mail/packages. Once the mail reaches the campus post office, it is distributed upon arrival. Mail Services can't be held responsible for lost mail/packages that were never received at the campus post office, but we can assure you all mail received will be distributed as quickly as possible.

Mail Insurance

During the holiday season when online shopping is more prevalent, we strongly encourage you to purchase liability insurance for your packages. Insurance coverage only covers the actual value of mail contents. You may purchase up to $5,000 indemnity coverage in person at the Downtown Post Office or online. The Price is based on declared value starting at $2.10. Visit the following link --Extra Services and Fees.
