Jim Borsig, President

Office of the President

Dr. Jim Borsig

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in The W!

I am proud to serve as the 14th president of Mississippi University for Women, widely known as The W, a coeducational public university located in Columbus, Mississippi.  Some 3,300 students are enrolled in our three academic colleges: Arts, Sciences, and Education; Business and Professional Studies; and Nursing and Health Sciences.

A treasured university motto is “We study for light to bless with light.” Here the focus is on our students. You will receive a quality, personalized and affordable education taught by our dedicated and talented faculty. Our faculty and staff work together so you will succeed academically, as well as be prepared for the rest of your life.

The university has a distinguished history and was the first publicly chartered college for women in the United States. Today, the women and men who attend The W choose from 50 undergraduate majors and 13 graduate programs. Students have the option of living on our historically significant campus, where the faculty-student ratio is 14-1; or to study in one of our online degree programs—12 undergraduate and two graduate programs.

I encourage you to explore The W here on the web and also with a campus visit. You will discover our challenging academic programs, a vibrant campus life, the Ina E. Gordy Honors College, academic programs designed for working adult students, intercollegiate athletics, and our welcoming, diverse, and inclusive university community.

Let me know if I can help you along your path to your future.
