Participation in community service a visible way to live the mission of Mississippi University for Women, and service allows students to share their talents with those in need, learn more about themselves, and give back to the community they call home.
The Office of Community Service maintains a list of service opportunities and organizes a variety of service events from afternoons of service to three day service trips. For most events, the office facilitates transportation to service sites.
Alternative Break November 14th-16th The W partnered with Habitat for Humanity in Meridian, Mississippi for the Fall Alternative Break. The experience included 17 students for a two day two night stay in Meridian helping Habitat for Humanity refurbish two different houses whose owners did not have the financial means to support the labor costs of a contractor. Students on the trip earned 15 hours of Community Service and helped two families enhance their living environments to stay healthy and warm during the winter weather.
Thanksgiving Baskets The W Leadership program and Staff Council partnered to organize the annual Thanksgiving Day Baskets. Each year The W family collects non-perishable food items fit for a Thanksgiving Meal. The baskets are filled by student groups and campus offices and delivered to local families in need. This year The W provided Thanksgiving Baskets to 43 families.
