Hands Up See Me!
The Student Government Association at Mississippi University for Women is hosting a program titled Hands Up See Me Monday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Claudia A. Limbert Assembly Room in Cochran Hall.
The program is inspired by Mike Brown and the incident in Ferguson, Mo. The program will consist of facilitated discussion that will promote communication among students.
Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions to a group of panelists. The panel will consist of Sirena Cantrell, dean of students and director of Housing and Residence Life; Kimone Holtzman, coordinator of student engagement; Bre'Ana Marshall, senior education major; Antonio Small, senior communication major; and campus police.
Sade Meeks, president of SGA, said such communication is pivotal in aiding in new perspectives, increasing understanding and preventing stereotypes and/or profiling.
“Understanding will help eliminate fears, broaden perspectives and enable individuals to see the next person for who they are, rather than stereotyping and/or profiling them because of factors that make them different,” Meeks said.
