What's Happening in Student Life

Recovery Efforts

The W’s Office of Community Service is currently working to find ways to assist as our community continues recovery efforts in the aftermath of severe storms this week. At this time, we ask that campus volunteers go through our office to assist with debris clean-up in the community.

Below are some of the ways that you can assist at this time:

1.       Donation of Goods:

a.       Items needed: Canned food (preferably with pop tops), water/sports drinks, cleaning and

hygiene products, and diapers

b.      United Way Drop-off Locations: Malco Theater (6am-7pm Wednesday and Thursday) and Office of Community Service (Cochran Hall 200 8am-5pm through Friday)

c.       United Methodist Church drop-off location: Wesley Foundation

d.      Housing & Residence Life also welcomes donations at the entrance of Late Night Breakfast on Monday, May 5th at 9 PM

2.       Volunteer as an individual or group of any size:

a.       Contact the Office of Community Service with the following information:

                                                               i.      Name(s)

                                                             ii.      Cell phone number

iii.      Time frame of availability (example: 8am-Noon on May 1st) for all group members between now and Sunday, May 4th

iv.      Can you provide your own transportation?

                                                             v.      Any special skills or tools

b.      Once we receive your information, we work with the United Way and notify you about site assignments.

As recovery efforts move forward, we will keep you informed about volunteer needs. Volunteers driving through any of the damaged areas or showing up unannounced is strongly discouragedfor safety concerns; please work with our office or a local agency if you would like to volunteer your time.
